Hey. I’m Jodie. TV and film writer. I write incisive character-driven comedies for the masses.
Is it hard being an environmentalist? I don’t like to complain, but yes.
“I mean, if you aren’t getting abandoned for being scarily into the planet, are you even an environmentalist?”
What it’s about: A half-hour workplace comedy about a battling environmentalist and oil exec who go to the same therapist.
Status: Optioned. Actively pitching to networks.
In a nutshell: It’s Silicon Valley meets Hacks, with a touch of New Girl dressed in green.
Set in: Present day Vancouver, BC
What it’s really about: Ego vs heart. What happens when we see each other’s humanity.
The Blacklist said: “Audiences will laugh out loud.” “Personality drips from the pages.” “Building genuine humor from this kind of subject matter is impressive and unique for a sitcom.”
It’s the 1480’s. Get with the times.
“You know as well as I do, the way to get anything done in this town is through money, power, or using religious writing out of context to prove your point.”
What it’s about: A workplace mockumentary set in the 1480s about a gang of overlooked women and failed knight as they take on a town of witch-hating rule followers, while trying to make their tavern the hottest spot in town.
Inspired by: Historical events of a group of women who stood up to a witch-hating priest, and ran him out of town. (Only for him to go on to write one of the most dangerous books in history, but that’s a story for Season 2).
Status: Pitching production companies.
In a nutshell: A women- and queer-led Always Sunny in a medieval setting. (But keep the modern humor).
Set in: 1480s Innsbruck, Austria
What it’s really about: Oppression vs freedom. Reclaiming your power, even when the world is set on hoarding it.
Producers have said: “I hope this gets made because I can't wait to watch it.” - Colleen Labella, Shoot to Midnight.
More blooming soon.
